Wildcats Fall 5-3 at No. 3 Boston College

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- The University of New Hampshire men's hockey team erased a 3-0 deficit in the third period, but the third-ranked Boston College Eagles scored a pair of late goals for a 5-3 win at Conte Forum Tuesday night.

WHAT HAPPENED
The Eagles took a 1-0 lead with a power play goal by Christopher Brown at the 7:36 mark of the first period. Austin Cangelosi set up the play with a pass to Scott Savage. Savage fed the puck to Brown who crammed a shot into the net.
In the second period, the Eagles went up 2-0 at the 8:06 mark with a goal by Casey Fitzgerald. Ryan Fitzgerald won the faceoff in the UNH zone to Colin White. White redirected the puck to Casey Fitzgerald who fired a shot from the blueline that went through traffic and into the net. BC took a 3-0 lead at 11:50 of the second period on a one-timer by Matthew Gaudreau. Luke McInnis gained control of the puck and slid a pass to Cangelosi in the neutral zone. Cangelosi skated in with the puck and played it across the face off the net to Gaudreau who one timed his shot into the net.
The Wildcats got on the board at 15:24 of the second period on a goal by freshman Liam Blackburn (Prince George, British Columbia). The play started with sophomore blueliner Matt Dawson throwing a puck in on net that hit rookie Brendan van Riemsdyk (Middletown, N.J.) on the way in. The puck then hit Blackburn and made its way past Woll into the net.
UNH cut the deficit to one goal when Jason Salvaggio (Hanson, Mass.) scored his fourth goal of the season on a power play at the 9:21 mark of the third period. Patrick Grasso (Ankeny, Iowa) played a pass to Michael McNicholas (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) to the left of Woll in the faceoff circle. McNicholas played a pass to Salvaggio at the top of the crease as he one timed his shot past Woll.
At 15:51 of the third, senior captain Matias Cleland (Longmont, Colo.) ripped a shot from just inside the blueline that rang the post and went into the net. Tyler Kelleher (Longmeadow, Mass.) played a pass to Cleland in the UNH zone and Cleland skated up the ice with the puck into the neutral zone and passed it to Blackburn along the boards. Blackburn played it back to Cleland at the top of the blueline and Cleland unleashed a shot that lit the lamp.
With under three minutes to play in the third period, BC regained the lead on a goal by JD Dudek. Chris Calnan got the secondary assist on the goal as he passed it to Gaudreau who set up Dudek on the play. The Eagles took a 5-3 lead with one second remaining in the third period on an empty net goal by White. Cangelosi notched his third assist of the night on the play while Ryan Fitzgerald recorded his second.
