DURHAM, N.H. - The UNH Department of Athletics is proud to announce the establishment of the Raymond E. Donnelly Jr. '59 Athletic Scholarship Fund.Â
During a recent trip to Atlanta, President Mark Huddleston and his wife Emma Bricker visited Kevin '79 and Kathy '80 Smith at the headquarters of Rollins Inc. (parent company of Orkin Pest Control among many other subsidiary companies), where Kevin works as the Chief Marketing Officer. During their visit, Kathy and Kevin finalized the establishment of the Raymond E. Donnelly, Jr. '59 Athletic Scholarship Fund in honor of Kathy's father, Ray Donnelly.Â
The new endowed fund will provide annual scholarship support to a deserving member of the UNH football team. Coach McDonnell recently called Donnelly, who now resides in Florida, and they talked about 1950's UNH football and the outlook for the 2015 football season. The two also discussed growing up in upstate New York before making their respective marks at UNH. Donnelly attended Christian Brothers Academy in Albany, NY for high school. While in Durham, Donnelly was a two-sport athlete for the Wildcats, playing football and baseball.
The Raymond E. Donnelly, Jr. '59 Athletic Scholarship fund, similar to other existing endowed funds at UNH, is a special gift and provides financial scholarship support in perpetuity that is used to provide student-athletes with a quality educational and athletic experience. Endowed funds demonstrate a donor's commitment to the University in supporting athletic and academic excellence and help secure the future of our student-athletes. The fund is the 115th endowed scholarship fund for UNH Athletics and the 26th for the football program. View a full list of the athletic current endowed funds.
More than 330 UNH student-athletes receive some type of athletic scholarship aid, bringing the annual cost of athletic scholarships to $9 million. To ensure the longevity and continued success of UNH Athletics, increasing the number and the overall value of these funds is essential. To learn more about establishing an endowed scholarship in your name, your family's name or in memory/honor of an individual, please contact the Athletics Development office.Â
