Athletics Forms Partnership with Service Credit Union
Service Credit Union is the first corporation to establish an endowed athletic scholarship fund at the University of New Hampshire. By establishing the Service Credit Wildcat Athletic Scholarship Fund, the organization joins some of our most generous donors who support athletic scholarships for our 20 intercollegiate programs. The new scholarship will be awarded annually to a student- athlete with preference given to a N.H. resident demonstrating a commitment to academics and community service.
This year's scholarship recipient is Kelsey Hogan, a senior co-captain of the women's basketball team from Nashua, N.H. In October, the senior guard was named to the 2013–14 America East Preseason All-Conference Team. In 2012, Hogan made the America East Commissioner's Honor Roll. When she is not studying or training, Hogan coaches youth basketball. "Kelsey really exemplifies what it means to be a student-athlete," says Maureen Magarity, head women's basketball coach. "Her contribution to UNH Women's Basketball cannot be underestimated."
In addition, Service Credit Union recently launched an "Official Debit Card of the UNH Wildcats." With the new Wildcat debit card, each swipe of the card helps support the endowed scholarship fund.
"At Service Credit Union, we realize the importance of education and the affordability of attaining postsecondary schooling," says Gordon Simmons, president and CEO of Service Credit Union. "We focused on our partnership with the UNH Wildcats and helping a New Hampshire scholar athlete realize that dream while participating in their sport."
The Official Debit Card of the UNH Wildcats is available at any Service Credit Union branch and online through Service Credit Union's MyCardDesign program. For UNH students, it's a no-fee ATM card worldwide. This past summer, a deposit-taking ATM machine was installed in the UNH Field House.
"Education is an important element of Service Credit Union's community commitment," says Simmons. "Service Credit Union is honored to be associated with a great educational institution like the University of New Hampshire."
UNH Athletic Director Marty Scarano notes, "Service Credit Union is a highly valued partner of UNH Athletics. We are very appreciative of their support of UNH and look forward to many more years of working with them."
Service Credit Union also sponsors a brand new T-shirt cannon and receives brand exposure across multiple UNH Athletics media including the official web- site, www.UNHWildcats.com, radio, and television. Their sponsorship includes prominent signage in on-campus venues.
A full-service financial institution, Service Credit Union offers a wide range of financial products to its members. With over $2.3 billion in assets, Service Credit Union has 24 branches in New Hampshire, one in Massachusetts, and 17 branches on U.S. military bases in Germany.
By establishing the first endowed athletic scholarship funded by a corporation, Service Credit Union has paved the way for other organizations to similarly join and support our UNH Wildcat Family.
