Women’s Cross Country Takes Ninth at Paul Short Invite

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Freshman Laura Rose Donegan (Melbourne, Australia) placed 25th overall to lead the University of New Hampshire women's cross country team to a ninth-place finish at the 40-team Paul Short Invitational Friday on the campus of Lehigh University.

The Wildcats totaled 331 points in the College Gold race to finish first among America East teams, while Cornell captured the meet with 55 points.

Donegan, who crossed the finish line in a time of 21:00, is off to a great rookie season as she also earned a second-place finish two weeks ago at the America East Pre-Conference meet.

Senior Keely Maguire (Georgetown, Mass.) raced for the first time this season and was right behind Donegan as she placed 30th overall in a time of 21:02.

Junior Anne Twombly (Exeter, N.H.), who placed third overall in the season-opener against Providence, turned-in a 64th-place finish in a time 21:43.

Junior Elise Beattie (Woodstock, Ill.) took 101st at 22:08, while senior Erin Phillips (Belmont, N.H.) finished 111th in a time of 22:15. Senior Darcy James (Exeter, N.H.) and junior Cayla Pellegrini (Derry, N.H.) finished 141st and 163rd, respectively, in times of 22:35 and 22:47 to round out the Wildcat finishers.

The Wildcats return to action on Sunday, Oct. 7 when they take part in the New England Championships at Stanley Park in Westfield, Mass.
