BOSTON – Senior captain Kim Povec (Holland-Patent, N.Y.) and sophomore Erica Jesseman (Scarborough, Maine) finished 12th and 16th, respectively, to lead the University of New Hampshire women’s cross country team to a seventh-place finish at the 45-team New England Championships on Saturday afternoon at Franklin Park.
The Wildcats, who came into the race ranked ninth in New England, finished with 220 points, trailing only Boston College (38), Brown University (141), Williams College (190), Dartmouth College (193), Boston University (201) and Middlebury College (208).
Povec completed the course in 18 minutes, 13 seconds and was separated from seventh place by just 11 seconds, while Jesseman finished in 18:22. Povec and Jesseman were both named to the All-New England Team for finishing in the top 25 of the 301-runner field.
Sophomore Allison Letourneau (Kingston, Nova Scotia) and junior Courtney Hamer (Andover, Mass.) placed 55th and 59th, respectively, for the Wildcats. Letourneau finished in a time of 18:51, while Hamer crossed the finish line at 18:54.
Sophomore Sydney Fitzpatrick (Billerica, Mass.) placed 78th for the Wildcats in a time of 19:13. Senior Elizabeth Morrissey (Mt. Kisco, N.Y.) and junior Emily Osgood (Wellsboro, Pa.) rounded out the UNH harriers, finishing 80th and 83rd, respectively. Morrissey finished at 19:16, while Osgood came across at 19:17.
The Wildcats return to action Saturday, Nov. 1 when they compete at the America East Championship at Oregon Ridge Park.
