THREE NAMED TO ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM FOR CROSS COUNTRY
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The America East conference announced Wednesday that senior Cathy Parker (Westford, Mass.) of the University of New Hampshire women’s cross country team, as well as senior Jordan Horwitz (Evanston, Ill.) and junior Matthew O’Connor (Rhinebeck, N.Y.) of the UNH men’s cross country team, have been named to the 2007 America East Cross Country All-Academic Team.
   
Parker, whose 3.85 GPA in UNH’s highly-competitive nursing school is the highest on the All-Academic Team, finished second overall at the America East Championships on Oct. 27 in Stony Brook, N.Y., to lead the Wildcats to a third-place finish. Parker completed the 5,008 meter course in a time of 17 minutes, 38.8 seconds.
   
Parker, who also was named to the 2006 All-Academic Team, was named America East Women’s Cross Country Performer of the Week for the weeks ending Oct. 1 and Oct. 15, as well as ECAC Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week for the week ending Oct. 1.
   
Horwitz and O’Connor, whose respective 3.08 and 3.15 GPAs helped get them named to the squad, were two big reasons the ‘Cats won their second straight America East Championship on Oct. 27. Horwitz finished in seventh place, completing the 8,124 meter course in a time of 26:23.8, while O’Connor finished fourth in 25:51.8.
   
All three runners were named to the America East All-Conference team for their top-10 finishes in Stony Brook.

The women’s team returns to action Saturday, Nov. 10 at the NCAA Regionals at Franklin Park in Boston, while the men return to action Thursday, Nov. 1 at the ICAAAA championships at Van Cortland Park in Van Cortland, N.Y.
