UNH WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY SECOND IN AMERICA EAST PRESEASON COACHES POLL

BOSTON - - The University of New Hampshire women's cross country received 55 points to place a close second behind the Boston University Terriers (64 points) in the America East Preseason Coaches Poll that was released on Thursday morning.

New Hampshire was one of the youngest teams last season with just three seniors on the roster. The up and coming Wildcats return four top-25 finishers from last season's conference championship, including Catherine Parker (Westford, Mass.) who placed fifth overall. Senior Emily Mareb (Great Barrington, Mass.) placed 13th at the conference championships along with senior Ashley Vance (Manchester, N.H.) who notched a 28th place showing. Elizabeth Morrissey (Mt. Kisco, N.Y.), Allison Pomkyato (Hampstead, N.H.) and Danielle Costanza (Moultonborough, N.H.) will add depth and pace a strong group of runners in hopes of capturing a conference championship.

As for the rest of the poll, Stony Brook University was third in the voting (44), followed by University at Albany (40), Binghamton University (39), University of Vermont (36), University of Maine (22), UMBC (16) and the University of Hartford (8) round out the nine-team poll.

The 2006 America East Cross Country Championships will be held on October 28 on the campus of the University of Maine in Orono, Maine. For more information on America East cross-country, including complete 2005 championship results, log on to www.AmericaEast.Com.
