UNH women's cross country is third in cross country poll

BOSTON-- The University of New Hampshire women's cross country team received one first-place vote and a total of 49 points to place third in the America East Preseason Coaches' Poll that was release Wednesday afternoon.

UNH, the runner-up at the 2004 America East Championship and titlists in 2003, placed behind perennial power Boston University (63 points; seven first-place votes) and Stony Brook (51). The Wildcats were followed in the poll by Binghamton (42), Albany (36), Vermont (32), UMBC (24), Maine (19) and Hartford (8).

Senior captains Jen Busse (Brookline, N.H.) and Chelsea Corr (East Greenbush, N.Y.) will lead the 2005 Wildcat harriers. Sophomore Cathy Parker (Westford, Mass.) is the top returning 'Cat from last year's America East Championship with a 16th-place finish. Heather Carmichael (Windsor, Vt.), another senior, and junior Ashley Vance (Manchester, N.H.) are also expected to be among UNH's top performers through the season.

The 2005 America East Championship is Oct. 29 on the campus of Binghamton University.
