New Hampshire's Read named Academic All-American

DURHAM, N.H. -- Lesley Read (Dover, N.H.), a senior at the University of New Hampshire, was named to the Women's Intercollegiate Cross Country Coaches Association 2003 Academic All-America Team, the organization announced recently. In addition, the UNH women's cross country team was honored as a 2003 Academic All-America Cross Country Team for recording higher than a 3.25 team grade-point-average.

Read, majoring in both English and communications with a 3.90 cumulative GPA, placed 13th at the 2003 NCAA Northeast Regional. Her other season highlights included winning the ECAC Championships and a second-place finish at the America East Championships that led UNH to the conference title. In addition, Read won the Central Connecticut State Invitational – the Wildcats also won that event – and finished second at the Albany Invitational.

To receive distinction as an Academic All-American, a student-athlete must excel both in competition and in the classroom by attaining a minimum 3.25 cumulative GPA and finishing in the top 10% of her respective NCAA regional.
