DURHAM, N.H. – Junior Morgan Thatcher (Brockton, Mass.) of the University of New Hampshire volleyball team was named the Holly Young Most Valuable Player at the 2012 awards banquet, held Friday, April 19, at the Skybox Lounge at the Whittemore Center Arena.
Thatcher, an America East First Team All-Conference selection, was also honored as the America East Player of the Week on four occasions during the season. Thatcher took the second spot in the conference rankings in points with 474, averaging 4.05 per set. The junior also finished the season ranked fourth in the conference in kills (412), calculating out to 3.52 kills per set.
Freshman Brenna Buckwalter (Evergreen, Colo.) was named the recipient of the Ed Jentes Coaches' Award. She was tabbed to the America East All-Rookie team, highlighted by finishing the season ranked first on the team and fifth in the conference in hitting percentage. She converted her hits at a rate of 24.2 percent.
Sophomore Sam Henke (Millersville, Md.) earned the Judy Ray Academic Excellence Award for having the highest grade point average on the team. Henke finished the season ranked second in serving aces with 31.
The UNH Players' Award was bestowed upon sophomore Katie Sattora (Avon, N.Y.). Sattora played in 24 matches, registering time in 67 sets. She recorded 70 digs and six serving aces.
Bob and Myra Schnepp, parents of senior Jessie Schnepp (East Longmeadow, Mass.) were awarded the Karl Van Asselt Assist Award. The award represents the outstanding support shown by the recipients to the volleyball program.
