DURHAM, N.H. – Sara Heldman (Greenwood, Ind.) dished out a match-high 28 assists and registered 14 digs, including her 1,000th, to lift the University of New Hampshire volleyball team to a sweep of Providence College, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon at Lundholm Gymnasium. UNH improves to 8-14 overall, 3-4 in America East play, while PC is now 10-17, 2-5 AE. Set scores were 25-16, 25-22 and 25-19.

Heldman becomes just the eighth player in program history with 1,000 digs and just the second in program history to record 1,000 digs and 1,000 assists. Amy Keding (Northbrook, Ill.) posted a match-high 11 kills and added seven digs, three aces and a block. Lauren Laquerre (Concord, N.H.) and Taylor Dressing (Gillette, N.J.) each added nine kills. Freshman Destiny Tolliver (Rochester, Mich.) had eight kills and 13 digs, while Jayde Huxtable (St. Charles, Ill.) chipped in with a dozen digs.

The Wildcats opened up a 6-1 lead out of the gate in the first set and never trailed. The Friars would get to within three at 15-12, but New Hampshire pulled away for the 25-16 set victory. UNH hit at a .281 clip and took advantage of seven PC attacking errors.  In the second set, play was back-and-forth as three-straight Friar points made it 13-10, forcing a UNH timeout. Out of the break, the 'Cats responded with 6-3 run to tie it up at 16-16 before a PC timeout. The Friars scored three-straight forcing New Hampshire to use its final timeout trailing 19-16. UNH once again had an answer closing out the set on a 9-3 run.  The Friars built an early 13-9 lead in the third set. The 'Cats went on a 4-0 spurt to tie it at 13-13. The teams traded points to setup a tie at 17-17. From that point on, UNH scored eight of the match's final 10 points to complete the sweep. New Hampshire hit at a match-best .308 clip with 16 kills compared to just four errors.

New Hampshire travels to Stony Brook University on Friday, Oct. 29 (7 p.m.) and will play at Hartford on Sunday, Oct. 31 (1 p.m.). The Wildcats' next home match is Friday, Nov. 5 (7 p.m.) against Albany. Tickets to the Albany match are online at www.UNHWildcats.com.
