DURHAM, N.H. – Head Coach Jill Hirschinger of the University of New Hampshire volleyball team announced the additions of Morgan Thatcher (Brockton, Mass.) and Leah Thomas (Rochester, N.H.), who will join the Wildcats in the fall of 2010. These two newcomers will join Kaja Schirmer (Pittsford, N.Y.) and Destiny Tolliver (Rochester, Mich.) to make up this year's incoming class.

Thatcher, a 6-2 right-side hitter, played for Head Coach Jack Olson at Brockton High School over the past four years. Thatcher was the 2009 Gatorade Massachusetts Volleyball Player of the Year and was an AVCA/Under Armor All-America First Team. She was also The Enterprise News Player of the Year in 2008 and 2009 and was named to the Boston Globe, Boston Herald and The Enterprise News All-Scholastic teams in 2008 and 2009. Thatcher, a four-year starter, captained the 2009 squad leading the Boxers to the Big 3 Conference title in 2008 and a win at the Bay State Invitational that same season. Morgan, who was a two-time Big 3 All Star, played her club volleyball for the Mass Patriots Volleyball Club.

“I am really excited for the future of New Hampshire volleyball with the addition of Morgan Thatcher to the 2010 recruiting class,” Hirschinger said. “She is an athletic, intense, competitor. Adding an AVCA First Team High School All-American is a first for our program's history!”

Thomas, a 6-0 middle blocker, played for Head Coach Steve MacEntire at Spaulding High School (Rochester, N.H.) over the past four years. A four-year varsity player and 2009 captain, Thomas helped the Red Raiders to the NHIAA Division I championship in 2008 with runner-up finishes in 2007 and 2009. Thomas was a three-time NHIAA Division I First Team selection (2007-09) and was named to the Foster's Daily Democrat Dream Team three times as well (2007-09). She was an NHIAA and NHADA Scholar-Athlete in 2010 and ranks in the top five percent of her class. Thomas is a two-time captain of the Great Bay Volleyball Club (2009-10).

“Leah comes from one of the most successful high school programs in the state of New Hampshire, Hirschinger said. “She has been a member of the All-State first team the last three years and has dreamed of being a UNH Wildcat. We're thrilled to add another Granite State player to our roster!”

Thatcher and Thomas will join UNH volleyball team in the fall. The Wildcats are currently participating in their spring “non-traditional” season. They will be back in action again on April 17 at UConn.
