Junior Kirsten Bates (Calgary, Alberta) registered a match-high 20 kills to lead three players in with double-figure kills, but the University of New Hampshire volleyball team lost to America East foe the University at Albany, 3-1, on Sunday afternoon at University Gym. The set scores were 25-17, 21-25, 25-21, 25-21. The Wildcats fall to 3-15 overall, 0-2 in league play. The Great Danes are now 9-8 overall, 2-0 in America East. 

In addition to Bates on offense, freshman Lauren Laquerre (Concord, N.H.) had 10 kills, while Lindsay Fogarty (Pleasanton, Calif.) also tallied 10 kills. Defensively, Alyse Lahti (Pepper Pike, Ohio) led the way for the Wildcats with 19 digs. Kate Uitti (Pinckney, Mich.) had a UNH season-best 46 assists.

In the first set, the Great Danes jumped out to a 13-5 lead and extended that lead to 17-8. UNH would rally, but Albany held on for an eight-point win. The second set was back-and-forth early with UNH leading it 16-15. The Wildcats would score the next four points to build a 20-15 lead and went on to earn the four-point win. In the set, UNH had a match-best 17 kills and hit at a .308 percentage. Albany would bounce back and take the final two sets by identical 25-21 margins. In the third set, the Great Danes had 15 kills compared to just two attack errors for a .394 clip. In the fourth and final set Albany sprinted out to a 15-9 lead and never trailed in the set.

UNH returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 11 against America East foe Binghamton. Match time is 4 p.m. in Vestal, N.Y. The Wildcats return home on Saturday, Oct. 18, when they play host to league foe Hartford. Match time is 1 p.m. at Lundholm Gymnasium.
