CAMBRIDGE, Mass.  – Kirsten Bates (Calgary, Alberta), a sophomore middle blocker on the University of New Hampshire volleyball team, was named America East Player of the Week on Monday. Bates becomes the first Wildcat to earn this accolade in 2007.

Bates posted a double-double with a match-high 20 kills and 17 digs in a 3-1 win over Albany, securing the second seed for the Wildcats in the upcoming America East Championship. The sophomore middle blocker hit at a .390 clip, and had a team-high three blocks and two aces. Bates landed on the conference top ten in four categories last week, including hitting percentage, kills (5.00 per game), digs (4.25 per game), and points (5.62 per game). This is her first weekly award of the season.

UNH, the two seed in the upcoming America East Championship, returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 17 as they play a semifinal match with No. 3 Albany at 4 p.m. at top-seeded Stony Brook.
