VOLLEYBALL LOSES PAIR IN UNH TOURNAMENT

    DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire volleyball team was defeated by Texas-San Antonio, 3-2 on the seventh annual “Pack the Arena” Night on Saturday night at Lundholm Gymnasium in front of 628 fans. The game scores were 28-30, 16-30, 30-20, 30-21 and 17-19.
    Junior outside hitter Emmy Blouin (St. Albert, Alberta) capped off a great tournament with 23 kills, a .288 hitting percentage and seven digs in the loss to the Roadrunners. Blouin was the lone Wildcat named to UNH’s All-Tournament Team and finished the tournament with 55 kills and 20 digs in three matches over the weekend.
    Junior middle blocker Jessica Compton (Woodridge, Ill.) had the finest match of her Wildcat career with a career-high 18 kills to go along with a .615 hitting percentage. Senior captain Sarah Rehn (Oceanside, Calif.) also had another very solid outing on both sides of the ball with 14 kills and 18 digs.
    Sophomore setter Lucia Bridova (Bratislava, Slovakia) tallied a career-high 58 assists in her first start quarterbacking UNH’s offense this season. Freshman libero Alyse Lahti (Pepper Pike, Ohio) managed a match-high 21 digs in the losing cause for the ‘Cats.
    In the early match, the ‘Cats lost to San Jose State, 3-0. The game scores were 18-30, 20-30 and 19-30.
Blouin notched a team-high 12 kills in the loss to the Spartans, while Rehn registered 11 kills. Lahti tallied 18 digs in another strong defensive performance.
    UNH volleyball returns to action on Friday, Sept. 15 against Rice at the Michigan Tournament. Match time is 4:30 at Cliff Keen Arena in Ann Arbor, Mich.
