BOSTON-- Freshman outside hitter Caitlin Dowd (Portsmouth, N.H.) of University of New Hampshire women's volleyball team was named Co-Rookie of the Week by the America East conference on Monday afternoon.
Dowd registered 26 kills on the weekend in three matches and 10 games in the Ocean National Bank Invitational at UNH's Lundholm Gym. She averaged 2.60 kills per game and 2.80 points per game. She tied a career high with14 kills vs. Boston College on Saturday, Sept. 17. Dowd was the lone UNH selection to the Ocean National Bank All-Tournament Team for her outstanding play over the weekend.
She ranks third on the team with 91 kills, 2.47 points per game and 2.12 kills per game. Dowd has also tallied 36 digs, 12 blocks and a .188 hitting percentage in her first season in Durham.
Dowd established her career high in kills Sept. 2 vs. IUPUI at the Marquette Tournament in Milwaukee, Wis. She has recorded 10 or more kills on four occasions this season. On Aug. 26 she notched seven kills in her collegiate debut for the Wildcats against San Francisco on Aug. 26.
The Wildcats return to action at home Tuesday, Sept. 20 vs. intrastate rival Dartmouth College. Game time is 7 p.m. at Lundholm Gymnasium.
