MILWAUKEE, Wisc. - The University of New Hampshire women's volleyball team was defeated by IUPUI, 3-2 in the opening match of the Marquette Volleyball Challenge at the Al McGuire Center on Friday afternoon. The game scores were 30-26, 30-27, 18-30, 30-32 and 11-15.
UNH fell to 0-4 to begin the season, while IUPUI won its season opener.
The 'Cats were led statistically by sophomore outside hitter Emmy Blouin (St. Albert, Alberta) who tied a career-high with 19 kills in the loss. Senior captain Erin Walker (Fulton, N.Y.) registered 16 kills, six digs and seven blocks, while freshman Caitlin Dowd (Portsmouth, N.H.) turned in another solid performance with a career-high 14 kills and a .385 hitting percentage.
Junior Sarah Rehn (Oceanside, Calif.) ran the Wildcat offense with a career-high 50 assists, while also adding 10 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Jeanne Czipri (Aurora, Ill.) amassed a team-high 16 digs, while freshman libero Callie Webster (Mercer Island, Wash.) posted 14 digs in the match.
The Wildcats next match officially opens their 2005 home schedule at Lundholm Gym on Tuesday, Sept. 6 (7 p.m.) against the 2004 defending national champions Stanford University on the fifth annual "Pack the Arena Night" as the Wildcats try to break their attendance record of 1,949 fans set on Oct. 22, 2000 vs. Hofstra.
