DURHAM, N.H.- The University of New Hampshire women's volleyball team defeated the University of Maine, 3-0, in the America East opener on Tuesday, October 7th at Lundholm Gym. The game scores were 30-26, 30-22, 30-18.
With the win UNH moves above the .500 mark for the first time this season with a 10-9 record and a 1-0 record in America East play. Maine dropped to 9-12 overall and 0-1 in conference action.
Senior outside hitter Alyson Coler (Monte Sereno, Calif.) paced the UNH offense with 19 points, a match-high 16 kills, 12 digs and a .297 hitting percentage. Sophomore outside hitter Erin Walker (Fulton, N.Y.) notched 17 points and 15 kills, which was the second-highest total on the on the 'Cats roster. Junior middle hitter Natasha Otte (Plymouth, N.H.) tallied eight kills and six digs.
Senior setter Anne Davis (Groveland, Ill.) and freshman Katie Weidner (Warrenville, Ill.) split time running the 'Cat attack recording 21 and 26 assists. Senior libero Sasha Scott (North Branford, Conn.) led the Wildcats on defense with a match-high 16 digs, while junior Jen Williams (Mountain View, Calif.) chipped in with five kills and 15 digs.
Maine was led by Leah Guidinger, who posted 12 kills and a .400 hitting percentage, while Jody Connacher registered 16 digs.
The Wildcats return to action Friday, Oct. 10 at the University at Albany. Match time is 7 p.m. UNH's next home match is Friday, Oct. 17 vs. the University of Hartford. Match time at Lundholm Gym is 7 p.m.
