DURHAM, N.H.-University of New Hampshire head volleyball coach Jill Hirschinger announced Wednesday the 2004 Wildcat women's volleyball schedule for the upcoming season.
The back-to-back America East champion UNH Wildcats will open its season Friday, Sept. 3 against the University of Toledo at 7p.m. in a home tournament that also features Florida International and Arizona State.
The Wildcats will also take part in three other in-season tournaments: Sept. 10-11 at the Big Orange Tournament, Sept. 17-18 at Rhode Island and Sept. 24-25 at the Fairfield Tournament. The 'Cats will face intrastate rival Dartmouth College on Tuesday, Sept. 21 in Hanover and will face former Wildcat associate head coach Andrea Leonard's Boston College Eagles on Tuesday, Sept. 28 at Chestnut Hill, Mass.
UNH opens America East conference play in defense of its back-to-back America East titles on Tuesday, Oct. 5 at the University of Maine. The first rematch of the 2003 America East title game will be played Saturday, Oct. 23 vs. the Huskies of Northeastern University at Lundholm Gym and the second match in Boston is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 5.
The America East Championships will be held Friday, Nov. 19 to Sunday, Nov. 21 on the campus of the highest seed.
Coach Hirschinger guided the 2003 Wildcats to a 23-12 record and a 12-2 record in conference play. The Wildcats won back-to-back regular-season and tournament titles in 2002 and 2003 and advanced to the NCAA postseason in both years. Hirschinger will begin her ninth season at the helm of the Wildcat volleyball program in the fall and she has compiled a 164-102 record since arriving in Durham in the fall of 1996. She has helped UNH to three NCAA tournament appearances and America East championships.
