STONY BROOK, N.Y. - Behind 19 kills and 11 digs from sophomore Alyson Coler (Monte Sereno, Calif.), the University of New Hampshire volleyball team defeated Stony Brook University 3-1 Sunday at the SBU Sports Complex.
The Wildcats rebounded from an opening game loss to take three in a row from the Seawolves as the game scores went 25-30, 30-26, 30-26, 30-25. The win, its third in a row, improves UNH's record to 12-7 overall, 5-2 America East. Stony Brook falls to 10-14 (3-4 America East).
Coler was particularly effective on the attack for the 'Cats, posting 19 kills on 47 attempts with just four errors for a .319 hitting percentage. Also playing well for UNH were freshman Bonnie Wilson (Moraga, Calif.) with 16 kills and a game-high 22 digs, junior Lauren Knight (Centerville, Mass.) with 13 kills and freshman Kerin Mackanin (Bartlett, Ill.) with 55 assists and eight digs.
Valerie Maloy had 23 kills and Susanne Westing had 18 digs for the Seawolves.
The Wildcats continue a five-match stretch on the road when they head to the University of Maine on Oct. 24 (7 p.m.). UNH's road trip ends with weekend matches against Towson and Stony Brook on Oct. 27 and 28. The 'Cats next home match is vs. Stony Brook on Nov. 3 (4 p.m.).
