New Hampshire Volleyball wins marathon over Buffalo, 3-2

AMHERST, Mass. - The University of New Hampshire volleyball team opened the UMass Invitational on Friday with a 3-2 victory over the University of Buffalo, getting double figures in kills from sophomore Alyson Coler (Monte Sereno, Calif.), junior Lauren Knight (Centerville, Mass.) and freshman Bonnie Wilson (Moraga, Calif.).

The Wildcats (3-2) took the first two games, 30-27, 30-12, but allowed Buffalo back in the match by dropping the next two games, 30-25, 28-30. In the deciding game, UNH held on for the victory, 15-13.

Coler had 20 kills, 14 digs and four service aces, while Knight finished with 18 kills and a .586 hitting percentage. Wilson rounded out the trio of 'Cats in double figures with 17 kills.

Sophomore setter Erin Ludwig (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) assisted on 57 kills, while producing nine kills of her own with a .667 hitting percentage. Sophomore Natasha Otte (Plymouth, N.H.) and freshman Heidi Specht (Kansas City, Mo.) were a force at the net with five and six blocks, respectively. Freshman Jen Williams (Mountain View, Calif.) had four service aces.

Buffalo's Lindsay Matikosh had 21 kills and 13 digs.

The Wildcats wrap up the tournament on Saturday with Dartmouth College (10 a.m.) and UMass (7 p.m.).
