Women’s Track & Field Sharp at Wildcat Invitational II

DURHAM, N.H. – Senior Kaitlin Kwiecien (Hampstead, N.H.) and juniors Jacky Mendes (Dayton, Maine) and Stephanie Walsh (Penacook, N.H.) each won an event and also added a top-3 finish as the University of New Hampshire women's track & field team hosted the Wildcat Invitational II on Saturday at the Reggie F. Atkins Track & Field Facility.  

The University of Maine, Colby Sawyer, Bowdoin and New England College also took part in the non-scoring meet.  

Kwiecien won the 200m in a time of 26.60, while Mendes and senior Chelsey Canavan (Stoneham, Mass.) placed second and fourth, respectively, in times of 26.63 and 26.96. Kwiecien also took third in the 400m, crossing the finish line in a time of 59.18, followed by Catherine Perrella (Bedford, N.H.) in fifth place with a time of 1:00.58.

Sophomore Darcy James (Exeter, N.H.) was first in the 800m in a time of 2:19.01. Fellow sophomore Meredith Long (Concord, N.H.) was fifth in 2:27.53.

Junior Keely Maguire (Georgetown, Mass.) won the 3000m in a time of 10:05.38, while freshman Julia Credendino (Islip, N.Y.) and sophomore Erin Phillips (Concord, N.H.) placed fifth and sixth, respectively, in times of 10:33.28 and 10:45.25.

In the 3000m steeplechase, junior Jennifer Racine (Haverhill, Mass.) was first in a time of 11:23.39. Sophomores Meagan Boucher (Manchester, N.H.) and Lucy Garfield followed second and third, respectively, in times of 11:45.98 and 11:46.33.

In the field, Mendes claimed the high jump with a winning leap of 1.52m.

Graduate student Rita Ciambra (Hanover, N.H.) won the pole vault for the second time in as many weeks with a mark of 3.72m. Freshman Bryn Estes (Lebanon, N.H.) finished fourth with a mark of 2.52m.

The Wildcats took the top-3 finishes in the long jump, led by senior Camille Quarles (Derry, N.H.) with a winning leap of 5.62m. Seniors Kaitlyn Dugan (Hatfield, Pa.) and Meghan McGrath (Merrimack, N.H.) finished second and third, respectively, with marks of 5.38m and 5.37m.

Sophomore Rosemary Read (West Greenwich, R.I.) won the hammer throw with a toss of 49.44m. Sophomore Keyla Salazar (Nashua, N.H.), senior Danielle Murkidjanian (Burlington, Mass.) and junior Melody Pothier (Lisbon, Conn.) finished second, fourth and sixth, respectively, with marks of 47.42m, 42.65m and 39.40m.

Walsh won the discus with a throw of 36.15m and also added a third-place finish in the shot put with a toss of 9.92m. Junior Kate Early (Corning, N.Y.) and freshman Michelle Gearin placed fourth and fifth, respectively, with tosses of 9.70m and 9.44m.

Salazar and Gearin also finished second and third in the javelin, respectively, with throws of 31.84m and 29.63m.

Senior Jasmin Washington (Waltham, Mass.) turned in a second-place performance in the triple jump with a mark of 10.73m.

Back on the track in the 100m, freshman Katherine Woods (Essex, Conn.) and sophomores Elizabeth Adejuyigbe (Penacook, N.H.) and Allison Brehm (Pembroke, N.H.) finished second through fourth, respectively, in times of 12.74, 12.84 and 12.85.

In the 1500m, freshman Elise Beattie (Woodstock, Ill.) came in at second in a time of 4:50.51.

Freshman Madeline Allen (Lenox, Mass.) and McGrath placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in times of 1:08.92 and 1:09.57.

The Wildcats return to action on April 20-21 at the Holy Cross Heptathlon.
