Women’s Track & Field Places Fourth at America East Championship

BOSTON – Junior Kaitlin Kwiecien (Hampstead, N.H.) turned in a second-place performance to lead the University of New Hampshire women's track & field team to a fourth-place finish on the final day of the America East Championships at Boston University's Track & Tennis Center on Saturday.

With 99 points, the Wildcats finished behind the University at Albany (206.50), Boston U. (119) and the University of Maine (112), but ahead of the University of Vermont (68), the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (64.50), Stony Brook University (61), Binghamton University (40) and the University of Hartford (9).

Kwiecien placed second in the 800 meters in an ECAC Championship-qualifying time of two minutes, 12.68 seconds, just 37-hundredths of a second behind the winner. Senior Catherine Perella (Bedford, N.H.) was fifth in a time of 2:14.83.

Senior Camille Quarles (Derry, N.H.), who placed seventh in the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 1.75 inches on Friday, finished third in the triple jump with an ECAC-qualifying mark of 40-1.25 inches.

Sophomore Darcy James (Exeter, N.H.) ran to a third-place finish in the 1,000 meters in an ECAC-qualifying time of 2:55.83.

Senior Erica Jesseman (Scarborough, Maine), who placed third in the 5,000 meters in an ECAC-qualifying time of 16:34.81 on the first day, finished fourth in the 3,000 meters in an ECAC-qualifying time of 9:38.69.

Senior Chelsey Canavan (Stoneham, Mass.), who qualified sixth in the 400 meter preliminaries in an ECAC-qualifying time of 56.97 on Friday, placed fifth in the final in a time of 57.25.

Sophomore Elizabeth Campbell (Colonia, N.J.) finished seventh in the mile in a time of 5:08.34.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Canavan, senior Meghan Donohue (Stratham, N.H.), Kwiecien and senior Kaitlyn Dugan (Hatfield, Pa.) placed third in a time of 3:54.13. The 4x800 squad of Perella, sophomores Meagan Boucher (Manchester, N.H.) and Meredith Long (Concord, N.H.), and James finished fifth in an ECAC-qualifying time of 9:14.42.          

The Wildcats return to action Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 25-26 at the New England Championships at the Track & Tennis Center.
