Women’s Track & Field Fourth at Boston Indoor Games

BOSTON – Seniors Rita Ciambra (Hanover, N.H.) and Chelsey Canavan (Stoneham, Mass.) each won individual events to lead the University of New Hampshire women's indoor track & field team to a fourth-place finish at the 17-team Reebok Boston Indoor Games on Friday evening at the Reggie Lewis Center.

With 64.50 points, the Wildcats trailed only host Northeastern (97), Brown (93) and Boston College (72).

Ciambra captured a win in the pole vault as she cleared a height of 12 feet, 11.75 inches, which was a New England Championship-qualifier and also nearly eight inches higher than the runner-up.

Canavan was victorious in the 500 meters, finishing in a New England-qualifying time of one minute, 16.31 seconds.

Senior Camille Quarles (Derry, N.H.) placed third in the triple jump with a New England-qualifying leap of 39-4.50. Junior Danica Goodheart (Meredith, N.H.) was eighth with a mark of 36-1.25.

Senior Kaitlyn Dugan (Hatfield, Pa.) finished in a tie for fourth place in the high jump with a leap of 5-3.75.

In the long jump, sophomore Melanie Frazier (Bridgewater, Mass.), senior Meghan McGrath (Merrimack, N.H.) and freshman Caroline Bonsaint (Hampton, N.H.) were fourth, sixth and eighth, respectively, with leaps of 17-3.25, 17-1.50 and 16-8.75.

In the 800 meters, seniors Kaitlin Kwiecien (Hampstead, N.H.), Megan Donohue (Stratham, N.H.) and Catherine Perrella (Bedford, N.H.) placed fifth, seventh and eighth, respectively, in New England-qualifying times of 2:14.49, 2:15.30 and 2:16.41.

In the weight throw, juniors Melody Pothier (Lisbon, Conn.) and Laura Stern (Shirley, Mass.), as well as sophomore Rosemary Read (West Greenwhich, R.I.), finished fifth, sixth and eighth, respectively. Pother and Stern submitted New England-qualifying tosses of 50-3.50 and 50-2.50, while Read came in with a mark of 47-11.25.

Senior Erica Jesseman (Scarborough, Maine) placed seventh in the mile run in a time of 4:59.59, which was a New England qualifier.

Sophomore Allison Brehm (Pembroke, Mass.) sprinted to a seventh-place finish in the 55 meters in a time of 7.47. Brehm was also 13th in the 200 meters in a time of 26.75.

The Wildcats' distance medley team of senior Elizabeth Campbell (Colonia, N.J.), Dugan, sophomore Meredith Long (Concord, N.H.) and Jesseman, placed sixth in a time of 12:17.90. The 4x400 squad of junior Elizabeth Adejuyigbe (Penacook, N.H.), freshman Kathryn Darmody (Westport, Mass.), junior Jacky Mendes (Dayton, Maine) and graduate student Kelly Thomas (Chichester, N.H.), finished seventh in a time of 4:09.47.

The Wildcats return to action Saturday, Feb. 5 at the Dartmouth Indoor Classic at the Leverone Field House.
