Women's Track & Field Solid at Carisella Carnival
BOSTON – Graduate student Rita Ciambra (Hanover, N.H.) and seniors Camille Quarles (Derry, N.H.), Kaitlin Kwiecien (Hampstead, N.H.) and Chelsey Canavan (Stoneham, Mass.) each turned in first-place finishes to pace the University of New Hampshire women's indoor track & field team at the Jay Carisella Carnival on Saturday afternoon at the Reggie Lewis Center.
Ciambra won the pole vault as she cleared a height of 13 feet, 0.25 inches.
Quarles was victorious in the triple jump with a leap of 38-10.50. Classmate Jasmin Washington (Waltham, Mass.) was sixth with a mark of 35-0.50. Quarles also finished second in the long jump with a distance of 17-11.75. Senior Meghan McGrath (Merrimack, N.H.) and sophomore Melanie Frazier (Bridgewater, Mass.) placed second and third, respectively, with marks of 17-1.50 and 16-11.50.
Kwiecien ran to a first-place finish in the 800 meters in a time of two minutes, 19.57 seconds. Senior Catherine Perella (Bedford, N.H.) was third at 2:20.04.
Canavan was first in the 500 meters in a time of 1:16.25. Sophomore Meagan Boucher (Manchester, N.H.) finished fifth a 1:20.41.
Sophomore Darcy James (Exeter, N.H.) placed second in the 1000 meters, crossing the finish line at 3:00.00 even.
Senior Megan Donohue (Stratham, N.H.) was second in the 400 meters in a time of 59.76. Freshman Kathryn Darmody (Westport, Mass.) and sophomore Meredith Long (Concord, N.H.) were seventh and ninth, respectively, in times of 1:02.10 and 1:02.72.
The Wildcats' 4x400-meter relay "A" team finished third in a time of 4:04.89.
Freshman Caroline Bonsaint (Hampton, N.H.) placed fourth in the 55-meter hurdles in 8.72 seconds. Classmate Kathryn LaFrance (Atkinson, N.H.) was eighth at 9.13.
Sophomore Allison Brehm (Pembroke, N.H.) finished fifth in the 55 meters at 7.47.
Sophomore Rosemary Read (West Greenwhich, R.I.) finished fifth in the weight throw with a toss of 47-8. Juniors Melody Pothier (Lisbon, Conn.) and Danielle Murkidjanian (Burlington, Mass.) placed seventh and ninth, respectively, with marks of 45-7.75 and 41-4.25.
Sophomore Elizabeth Adejuyigbe (Penacook, N.H.) was 14th in the 200 meters in a time of 27.00.
The Wildcats return to action Saturday, Dec. 11 (12 p.m.) when they play host to the University of Maine at the Paul Sweet Oval.
