CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – University of New Hampshire women’s outdoor track and field senior, Rita Ciambra (Hanover, N.H.), as well as junior Paul DeTurk (Durham, N.H.) from the men’s team, were both named America East Field Performer of the Week for the week ending March 21, the conference announced Tuesday.

DeTurk, who finished fourth in the hammer throw at last year’s championship, won the event in his first outdoor meet of the season at the Husky Spring Open. DeTurk finished first with an IC4A-qualifying toss of 59.67 meters, which ranks 14th in the nation and 10th in the East region. The top 48 in the East at the end of the year qualify for NCAAs.

Ciambra, who won the conference pole vault title in 2008, returns strong in 2010, capturing a title in that event at the Husky Spring Open. Her leap of 3.96m broke her own school record that she set in that conference title year and was an ECAC-qualifying mark.

The Wildcats return to action Saturday, March 27 at noon when they take on the University of Maine at the Beckett Track & Field Complex.
