McCANDLESS NAMED AMERICA EAST SWIMMER OF THE WEEK
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Lauren McCandless
(Macungie, Pa.), a freshman on the University of New Hampshire
swimming and diving team, was honored as the America East Swimmer
of the Week by the conference Tuesday afternoon.
McCandless led UNH to a pair of convincing victories at home
against Siena College (176.5-73.5) and Wagner College (120-80), as
the Wildcats took first place in every event over the weekend.
Along the way the freshman broke a 15-year-old pool record in the
1000-yard freestyle against Wagner, breaking the record by almost
two seconds with a time of 10 minutes and 18.08 seconds.
Aside from her record-breaking performance, McCandless also took
first place in the 100-yard butterfly (59.59), 200-yard butterfly
(2:06.54), and the 500-yard freestyle (5:03.69). She was also part
of the first-place 200-yard medley relay team against Siena.
McCandless and the Wildcats return to action Saturday, Nov. 6 at 2
p.m. when they to travel to Central Connecticut State to take on
the Blue Devils at Jack Suydam Natatorium.
