REED NAMED AMERICA EAST SWIMMER OF WEEK
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -
Shelli Reed (Hollister, Calif.), a freshman on the
University of New Hampshire swimming and diving team, was honored
as the America East Swimmer of the Week by the conference Tuesday
afternoon.
Reed captured three titles to propel the Wildcats to a 152-148
victory over the University of Vermont in their first conference
meet of the year, pushing them to 5-0 on the season.
The freshman claimed two individual and one relay win in the meet,
while also capturing a second place finish in the 50-yard freestyle
to kick off the afternoon, timing in at 24.51 seconds.
Midway through the action Reed continued her stellar pace as she
took first place in the 100-yard freestyle, ripping through the
water with a time of 52.77. She also added another strong showing
in the 100-yard butterfly, capturing first place, with a
personal-best time of 58.29.
With UNH trailing by five points entering the day's final event,
Reed answered the call once again for the ‘Cats swimming a
52.87 in the second leg of the 400 free relay, which won in a time
of 3:33.77, rallying the Wildcats to victory. The overall time was
two-tenths-of-a-second off the Swasey Pool record.
On the season, Reed holds the seventh spot in the America East
performance list in the 100 free, but with her swim in the 100 fly,
she now moves into the top-10. She also has the tenth best time in
the 200 IM in the conference, with a time of 2:10.01
Reed and the Wildcats return to action on Jan. 18, at 12 p.m.,
when they play host to Northeastern and Boston University at Swasey
Pool.
