BOSTON - University of New Hampshire women’s soccer senior midfielder Hillary Mefferd (Portland, Ore.) was named to the America East All-Conference Second Team, while teammate Shaunna Kaplan (Framingham, Mass.) earned America East All-Rookie Team honors. It was announced at the conference’s annual awards banquet on Saturday afternoon.
    Mefferd, a 2004 America East All-Conference First Team and 2003 America East All-Rookie Team member made all 16 starts at midfield this season to help lead the Wildcats to a fifth seed in the America East Tournament for the sixth consecutive season, which is the longest active streak in the conference. Mefferd tallied ten shots this season, but is mostly known for creating scoring opportunities for her teammates. Mefferd has compiled five assists in her collegiate career.
    Kaplan, who made four starts in 11 games played this season, provided an offensive spark off the bench as she recorded two goals this season. She registered a .500 shot on goal percentage and was third on the team in points with four. She is now one of five current players to earn an All-Rookie selection. The other four members include sophomores Michelle Sheehan (Belmont, Mass.), Sara Hourihan (Lynnfield, Mass.) and junior Adriana Gonzalez-Medina (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) and Mefferd.
