VESTAL, N.Y.-- Seniors Chiara Best (Rose Valley, Pa.) and Shannon Oltman (Edmonds, Wash.) of the University of New Hampshire women's soccer team were named to the 2004 America East All-Championship Team at the conclusion of the tournament on Sunday, Nov. 7.
Best, a forward, recorded a goal and assist in UNH's 4-0 first-round win against the University of Hartford. In that game, she became the program's all-time leading scorer by increasing her career total to 88 points. Best's assist set up the game-winning goal and she capped the scoring with a tally in the 80th minute.
Oltman, a back, scored her first two goals of the season - both on headers off corner kicks - to propel the 'Cats to victory against the Hawks. Her tallies in the 39th and 54th minutes increased UNH's lead from one goal to 3-0.
Earlier in the week, Best was honored by America East as Striker of the Year and as an All-Conference First Team selection. Oltman received distinction as Honorable Mention.
UNH finished in a tie for first place in the America East standings with a 6-3-0 conference record. As the No. 3 seed in the tournament, UNH defeated Hartford before a 2-0 loss to Maine in the semifinals ended the Wildcats' season at 11-8-2.
