New Hampshire women's soccer falls in OT to Brown, 2-1

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Julie Wernig (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) scored her first collegiate goal and Liz MacKay (Scituate, Mass.) recorded six saves for the University of New Hampshire women's soccer team, but Brown University prevailed 2-1 Friday night at Stevenson Field with an overtime goal in the 96th minute.

The loss snaps UNH's unbeaten streak at three games (1-0-2) and the Wildcats are now 2-3-2 overall. Brown improved to 3-2-0.

Kathleen Waddell gave the Bears a 1-0 lead at 17:25 on a blast from 40 yards out and the home team took that one-goal lead into halftime.

Wernig, a 2003 transfer from the University of Northern Colorado, tied the score at 59:40 as the 'Cats generated a 9-4 shot advantage in the second half.

Neither team could break the 1-1 tie in regulation but Katherine Moos, with the assistance of Waddell and Meghan Schreck, gave Brown the victory in the first overtime session at 95:06.

Brown goalkeeper Hillary Wilson was credited with 13 saves.

UNH returns to action Sept. 19 at home vs. Harvard University. Game time at Lewis Fields is 1p.m.
