UNH women's soccer sweeps America East awards

BOSTON - The University of New Hampshire women's soccer team swept this week's America East conference honors as senior captain Kristen Ouellette (Weatogue, Conn.) was named Player of the Week and freshman Jackie Wishoski (Malden, Mass.) earned Rookie of the Week honors on Monday.

It marked the third consecutive week that the top rookie honor went to a UNH Wildcat. Wishoski was named the conference's top rookie Sept. 23 and Ashlee Cieslak (Greendale, Wisc.) won the honor last week.

Ouellette went 1-0-0 with a 0.63 goals-against-average and a .917 save percentage in two games last week. She recorded a season-high 10 saves, including seven in the second half, in UNH's 1-0 overtime victory against two-time defending champion Boston University. Ouellette was credited with one save in the overtime session, which lasted 8:48, and it marked the first time since Oct. 1999 that BU lost a conference regular-season game. She played the first half vs. Providence and left the game with the score tied, 1-1.

On the year, Ouellette is the America East leader in save percentage at .872 and she ranks second in GAA (0.91). Her shutout vs. Boston U. was the second of the season and ninth of her career.

Wishoski was held off the scoresheet vs. Boston U. but scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season in UNH's 2-1 loss at Providence College on Oct. 6. Her tally gave the Wildcats a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute. Wishoski, who has started all 10 matches, also leads the team in points (nine) and shots (26). She has scored a goal in three of the last four matches.

New Hampshire (6-4-0 overall, 2-0-0 America East) returns to action Oct. 11 at Northeastern. The next Wildcat home game is Oct. 15 vs. Holy Cross. Game time at Lewis Fields is 3:30 p.m.
