New Hampshire women's soccer defeats Colorado, 2-1

BOULDER, Colo. - Senior midfielder Cyndi Poehner (Greenwich, Conn.) scored 4:27 into the first overtime session to give the University of New Hampshire a 2-1 victory Friday night against the University of Colorado at the Pleasantview Soccer Complex.

UNH, which improved to 3-2-0, fell behind in the eighth minute but rallied to tie the game on a goal by Jackie Wishoski (Malden, Mass.) at 25:39 when her shot from 15 yards beat Buffalo goalkeeper Jeanne Rankin. It was the rookie's first career goal.

Both teams were held scoreless over the final 64:21 of regulation to send the game into overtime at a 1-1 tie.

Poehner, whose game-tying shot attempt late in the second half against Dartmouth College caromed off the right post and across the goalmouth, would not be denied for a second straight game. Her shot from close range hit the underside of the crossbar and went into the net to give UNH a victory at 94:27.

Liz MacKay (Scituate, Mass.), who entered the game at the start of the second half, made two saves in 49:27 of action to earn the win. Kristen Ouellette (Weatogue, Conn.) was credited with two saves through the first half. Rankin stopped one shot for Colorado.

New Hampshire returns to action Sept 15 at Colorado College. The next Wildcat home game is Oct. 4 (3:30 p.m.) vs. America East rival Boston University.
