New Hampshire women's soccer defeated by Rhode Island, 3-1

KINGSTON, R.I. - Marky Solomon (Foster, R.I.) gave the University of New Hampshire women's soccer team an early 1-0 lead but the University of Rhode Island rallied to a 3-1 victory Sunday afternoon at the URI Soccer Complex.

Solomon finished a nice run with a chip shot over URI goalkeeper Jamie Epperlein (two saves) to give New Hampshire a 1-0 lead at 5:05. The Rams tied the game in the 25th minute when Catherine Zanni scored on a corner kick.

Shannon Kittelson broke the 1-1 tie 4:12 into the second half and Laura Seymour capped the scoring at 62:54.

Goalkeeper Stephanie Springer (Solana Beach, Calif.) made six saves for the Wildcats, who fell to 2-6-0 on the season. Rhode Island is off to the best start in school history at 9-0-0.

New Hampshire continues its seven-game road swing Sept. 28 (7 p.m.) against Boston University. The next home game is Oct. 13 (3 p.m.) vs. Vermont.
