Freshmen Reed and Taylor compete in USSA Cross Country Junior Ski Championships

MIDWAY, Utah – University of New Hampshire freshman Nordic skiers Sam Reed (Keene, N.H.) and Annika Taylor (Truckee, Calif.) recently competed in the 2012 Marriott Junior National Cross Country Championships at Soldier Hollow from March 3-10. Reed raced for the East team, while Taylor was a member of the West squad.

Competition began Monday, March 5, with the 1.3K classic sprint races. Taylor notched a seventh-place finish in 3 minutes, 34.4 seconds in the female older junior (18-19 years old) race, while Reed clocked in at 3:01.1 to finished 18th in the male older junior (18-19 years old) race.

On Wednesday, March 7, Taylor finished the FOJ freestyle in 34:18.6 seconds to notch 14th place, and Reed placed 17th in the MOJ free in a time of 44:31.4.

On Friday, March 9, Reed finished in third place at the MOJ classic interval start in 26:15.5, and Taylor placed 13th in 15:31.4 at the FOJ classic.

The championships wrapped up Saturday, March 10, with the 3x3K sprint freestyle relay. Taylor completed her leg of the FOJ race in 6:59.8 to help her team finish in fifth place, while Reed registered a time of 5:38.0 in his portion of the MOJ to help guide his team to seventh place.
