Lepine Skis to Giant Slalom Victory in UNH Carnival Race
EAST BURKE, Vt. – University of New Hampshire women's alpine team captain Marie-Elaine Lepine (Mont-Tremblant, Quebec) skied to victory in the giant slalom at Burke Mountain on Sunday in a makeup race from last month's UNH Winter Carnival.
Lepine posted a combined time of 1 minute, 59.53 seconds to take the top spot, while Jenna Kantor (East Burke, Vt.), who was competing in her hometown, registered a time of 2:02.51 for fourth place.
Taylor Vest-Burton (Breckenridge, Colo.) headlined the Wildcat men in the GS by finishing in an 18th-place time of 1:59.30 for top 'Cat honors. Sam Coffey (Snowmass, Colo.) notched a time of 1:59.54 to finish in 22nd place.
Inclement weather on Jan. 27 at Attitash in Jackson, N.H., postponed the originally scheduled GS carnival races. Points earned in Sunday's races will count toward individual NCAA qualifications but will not affect EISA individual or team scoring.
The UNH ski team takes part in the Williams Winter Carnival on Feb. 17-18 with alpine racing slated for Jiminy Peak and Nordic action taking place at Craftsbury Nordic Center. For more information, visit www.unhwildcats.com or www.unhskiing.com.
