Lindgren brothers help ski team charge to 3rd place at Dartmouth Carnival

LYME CENTER, N.H. & STOWE, Vt. – Brothers Erik and Per Lindgren (Pitea, Sweden) finished sixth and eighth, respectively, in the men's 20K classic for the University of New Hampshire men's Nordic skiers, and the Wildcats' ski team finished third overall at the Dartmouth Winter Carnival on Saturday.

The Wildcats, who were in fourth place after Friday's opening day of racing, finished with a season-high 722 points to rally past Middlebury College (712 points), while Vermont (982) captured the victory and Dartmouth (820) placed second.

Erik Lindgren earned 37 points by finishing in a sixth-place time of 59 minutes, 29.3 seconds, and Per Lindgren placed eighth in 59:33.2 to rack up 35 points. Sam Reed (Keene, N.H.) tallied 25 points by virtue of his 16th-place finish in 1 hour, 36.8 seconds, and the Wildcats totaled 97 points to finish behind Dartmouth (135 points) and Middlebury (112).

Liz Guiney (Park City, Utah) registered her eighth straight Top-10 finish by crossing the finish line in a team-best 10th in the women's Nordic 15K classic. Guiney secured 31 points in a time of 49:39.0. Tristan Ramey (Anchorage, Alaska) notched 30 points for 12th place (50:06.3), and Elizabeth Izzo (Lake Placid, N.Y.) rounded out the UNH scoring with 24 points and 20th place (51:13.4).

The men's alpine team, which finished second in slalom with 103 points, was led by Coley Oliver (Salt Lake City, Utah), who recorded a sixth-place finish in 1 minute, 33.58 seconds for 39 points. Paul Atkinson (Toronto, Ontario) clinched ninth place and 33 points in 1:34.50, and Taylor Vest-Burton (Breckenridge, Colo.) grabbed a share of 10th place in 1:34.53 to earn 31 points. UVM scored 141 points to win the race.

Jenna Kantor (East Burke, Vt.) was the top 'Cat in women's SL, logging a combined time of 1:40.68 for eighth place and 33 points. Catherine Blanchard (Eastman, Quebec) raced down the mountain in 1:41.81 for 10th place (30 points), followed immediately by teammate Marie-Elaine Lepine (Mont-Tremblant, Quebec), who navigated the course in 1:42.23 for 11th place (29 points). With 92 points, UNH finished fourth in the event.

The UNH ski team will take part in the Williams Winter Carnival on Friday, Feb. 17, and Saturday, Feb. 18, with alpine racing at Jiminy Peak and Nordic racing at Craftsbury Nordic Center. For more information, visit or
