Hoar & Izzo Compete in USSA Cross Country Ski National Championships
MINNEAPOLIS – University of New Hampshire Nordic skiers Kelsey Hoar (Shaftsbury, Vt.) and Elizabeth Izzo (Lake Placid, N.Y.) took part in the 2011 United States Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) Cross Country Junior National Championships held March 7-12 at Theodore Wirth Park.
Hoar opened the week by recording a 22nd-place finish in Monday's free sprint and followed up with a 29th-place finish in Friday's 5K free in 13:55.9.
Izzo began the week with a 12th-place finish in the Olympic Junior freestyle sprint Monday. On Wednesday, she finished as the top Mid-Atlantic competitor in the OJ 10K classic, notching a 13th-place result in 35 minutes, 19.7 seconds. The Wildcat freshman posted another impressive result in Friday's 5K freestyle, tallying 11th place in 13:15.4.
On Saturday, the UNH duo competed on separate 3x3 teams for classic sprint relays. Izzo's Mid-Atlantic team placed 12th
in the OJ race in a time of 34:12.8, and Hoar's mixed team took 26th
in the J1 division.
