CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior attacker Sarah Von Bargen (East Setauket, N.Y.) and junior attacker Shaunna Kaplan (Framingham, Mass.) of the 18th-ranked University of New Hampshire women’s lacrosse team finished second and third, respectively, in the voting for the inaugural America East Women’s Lacrosse Fans’ Choice Player of the Year, the league announced Friday.
The ballot generated nearly 2,300 fan votes, and University at Albany’s Nikki Branchini collected over 19 percent (444 votes) to edge out Von Bargen, who earned 416 votes (18 percent). Kaplan received 273 tallies (12 percent).
The UNH duo combined for 689 votes overall on the 14-player ballot to account for 30% of all voting, which ran from April 16-22.
New Hampshire (10-6 overall, 3-2 America East) concludes the regular season April 18 (1 p.m.) at Binghamton University. The Wildcats will then make their league-record 12th consecutive appearance in the America East Championship tournament, which will be held April 30 & May 2 at Boston University’s Nickerson Field.
