LACROSSE SWEEPS AMERICA EAST AWARDS
BOSTON -- Sarah Von Bargen (E. Setauket, N.Y.) and Shaunna Kaplan (Framingham, Mass.) of the University of New Hampshire women’s lacrosse team were honored as Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respecitively, by America East on Monday. It marked the second consecutive week that Kaplan received the rookie award.

Von Bargen, a sophomore attack, recorded six points, all on goals, as well as three draw controls and one caused turnover in two games last week for the Wildcats. She recorded three of the team’s four first-half goals vs. Towson University and finished with a team-high five goals; Von Bargen recorded her 50th career goal with the second of her five tallies. She also recorded two draw controls and one caused turnover vs. the Tigers. Von Bargen opened the week with one goal vs. Yale University.

Kaplan, a freshman midfielder, recorded a goal and an assist in both games last week to record totals of two goals and two assists for four points. She was also credited with two draw controls. Against Yale, Kaplan’s first-half goal gave the ‘Cats a 4-3 lead and her assist pulled UNH within 9-8 in the second half. Then against Towson, her second-half goal sparked a 3-0 Wildcat spurt and her assist once again lifted the ‘Cats within 9-8.

Von Bargen leads UNH in goals (11) and points (12) while Kaplan is tied for the team lead in assists (three) and ranks third in both goals (six) and points (nine).

UNH (1-3 overall, 0-0 America East) returns to action March 18 (1 p.m.) at Brown University. The Wildcats’ next home game is March 20 vs. UMass. Game time at Memorial Field is 3 p.m.
