BOSTON  -- Shaunna Kaplan (Framingham, Mass.), a freshman attack on the University of New Hampshire women’s lacrosse team, was named Rookie of the Week by America East on Monday.

Kaplan, who lettered for the UNH women’s soccer team last fall, had an impressive first week on the lacrosse field by scoring two goals in each of her first two games. She recorded two goals and an assist – as well as two ground balls, three caused turnovers and two draw controls -- to help UNH defeat the College of the Holy Cross, 14-13 in overtime of the season opener. With the Wildcats trailing 11-7, Kaplan’s goal at 4:41 of the second half ignited the 5-1 run that forced OT. She finished the week with two goals at sixth-ranked Dartmouth College.

Kaplan is third on the team in both goals (four) and points (five). She recorded five points (2g, 1a) in 13 games on the soccer pitch for the ‘Cats.

UNH (1-1, 0-0 America East) returns to action March 7 for its home opener vs. Yale University. Game time at Memorial Field is 3 p.m. The Wildcats will also play host to Towson University this week – March 10 at 1 p.m.
