DURHAM, N.H.-- Katie Leland (Timonium, Md.), a senior attack on the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team, was named to the Inside Lacrosse Pre-season All-America Third Team, the publication released earlier this month.
Leland has amassed 188 points on 126 goals and 62 assists in 56 career games and is one of just five UNH players to rank among the top 10 in all three statistics. She enters the 2006 season sixth on the all-time goals list ant trails leader Jessie Groszkowski by 52; is third on the assist list and trails leader Karen Geromini by 39; is fourth on the points list and trails Geromini by 47.
In the 2005 season, Leland led the Wildcats in goals (51), assists (21) and points (72) and netted seven game-winning goals in UNH's 11-8 campaign. She is a two-time selection to the America East All-Conference First Team (2004, 2005) whose other honors include IWLCA North All-Region First Team (2004), IWLCA North All-Region Second Team (2005), IWLCA All-Academic Squad (2005) and America East Women's Lacrosse Student-Athlete of the Year (2005).
Leland is the UNH record holder for goals in a game (nine; April 11, 2005 vs. UMBC) and points in a single season (90; 2004). She is one of just three Wildcats in the 29-year history of the program to record double digits in points with 11 in that game vs. UMBC.
New Hampshire opens the 2006 season at home against the College of the Holy Cross. Game time at Memorial Field is 3 p.m.
