UNH women's lax recognized in pre-season releases

DURHAM, N.H.-- The University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team, which won the 2004 America East regular-season and tournament titles en route to the NCAA tournament, is ranked No. 17 in the Inside Lacrosse Division I Preseason Poll that was released on the publication's website Wednesday.

Three Wildcats were also honored as a Division I Preseason All-America selection with both Jess Burnap (New Canaan, Conn.) and Katie Leland (Timonium, Md.) on the Second Team and Laura Dosdall (Wellesley, Mass.) on the Third Team.

UNH returns a total of 15 letterwinners, including nine starters, from the 2004 team that went 15-5 overall and 6-0 in America East. Burnap broke the program's single-season goals record with 72 last year and finished with 81 points. Leland, meanwhile, shattered the single-season points record with 90 on 60 goals and 30 assists.

New Hampshire opens the 2005 season March 1 (3:30 p.m.) at the College of the Holy Cross. The Wildcats' home opener is March 9 (3 p.m.) vs. Yale University.
