DURHAM, N.H. -- Old Dominion University scored three goals in a two-minute span late in the game to defeat the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team, 8-5, Monday afternoon at Memorial Field.
UNH (3-5) pulled within 5-4 with 9:23 remaining in the game when sophomore Hilary Maynes (Freeport, Maine) went coast-to-coast. The Wildcats never did pull even, however, as Old Dominion (5-9) pulled away with goals by Jenna Bajus (at 4:52) and Dana Wisniewski (4:04). The Lady Monarchs extended their advantage to 8-4 on a Jennifer Heister tally with 2:57 to play.
Colleen Christopher (Hampton Falls, N.H.) closed the game's scoring when she netted her second goal of the game and team-best 17th of the season with 44 seconds on the clock.
Sue Yund (Castleton, N.Y.) gave the Wildcats a 1-0 lead 5:30 into the game, but the Lady Monarchs shut out the hosts the rest of the half. Wisniewski tied the game at 18:44 on a free position goal and gave ODU a 2-1 lead at 17:01 - New Hampshire never pulled even thereafter. Danielle Hensil gave the visitors a 3-1 halftime lead with a goal at 4:23.
Pam Seebald opened the second-half scoring at 26:27 to push Old Dominion's advantage to 4-1. Meagan Clavin (Hanover, N.H.) pulled the 'Cats within 4-2 at 15:21 and Christopher trimmed the deficit to one goal 2:08 later. Jessie Groszkowsi (Reistertown, Md.) recorded an assist on both tallies.
Hensil potted her second goal of the game to make it 5-3 at 10:47.
UNH goalkeeper Amanda Warren (Amherst, N.H.) stopped 14 shots while ODU's Laurie Koller was credited with five saves.
UNH returns to action April 12 (4 p.m.) at Holy Cross. The next Wildcat home game is April 14 against nationally-ranked Delaware. Game time at Memorial Field is 3:30 p.m. UNH also has a home game April 16 vs. Towson at noon.
