UNH Women's Lax Outlasts Brown, 8-6

DURHAM, N.H. -- Junior midfielder Colleen Christopher (Hampton Falls, N.H.) netted three goals, including the 50th of her career, to propel the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team to Wednesday afternoon's 8-6 victory against Brown University at Memorial Field.

UNH (2-4) faced a 3-1 deficit at halftime but scored five goals in a six-minute span to take a 6-3 lead with 20 minutes remaining in the game. Freshman Jessie Groszkowski (Reistertown, Md.) ignited the spark at 26:02 and sophomore Sue Yund (Castelton, N.Y.) tied the game with 24:23 on the clock. Christopher potted goals 20 seconds apart - at 21:22 and 21:02 - to give the Wildcats their first lead of the game; the second of those tallies was the 50th of her career. Junior Megan Mangano (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) extended the cushion to 6-3 one minute after Chistopher's back-to-back scores.

Brown (3-4) closed within 6-4 on a Lisa Cozzens goal at 18:04, but Mangano's second tally of the game pushed UNH's lead back to three goals with 14:12 to play. Sara Gilbane netted her second goal of the game to pull the Bears within 7-5 at 9:49.

Senior co-captain Steph Keefe (Newton, Mass.) scored 57 seconds later to give New Hampshire an 8-5 advantage before Brown's Keely McDonald scored at 6:49.

UNH controlled possession in the final three minutes to preserve the two-goal margin of victory.

Cristi Gigon gave Brown a 1-0 lead 5:34 into the game with the help of Lauren Klein. Mangano set up Christopher's first goal, which tied the score 1-1 at 20:00. Strong play by both goalkeepers kept the game scoreless for over 10 minutes before Gilbane broke the deadlock at 8:34. Emily Boynton's tally at 6:05 closed the first-half scoring.

New Hampshire goalie Amanda Warren (Amherst, N.H.) recorded 11 saves and saw four other shots carom off a pipe. BU's Niki Caggiano stopped 12 shots.

UNH returns to action April 7 (3:30 p.m.) at the University of Vermont. The next Wildcat home game is April 10 against Old Dominion University. Game time at Memorial Field is 2 p.m.
