Horn, Lavoie Selected to Hockey East Honorable Mention All-Star Team


Hyannis, Mass.  – Kristine Horn (Utica, Mich.) and Kristina Lavoie (Fonthill, Ontario) of the University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team were announced as 2012 WHEA Honorable Mention All-Stars, the Women's Hockey East Association announced Friday night at the league's annual awards banquet.

Lavoie was also an Honorable Mention All-Star in 2010, when she was feted as the Hockey East Bauer Rookie of the Year and was a unanimous selection to the league's All-Rookie Team. 

Horn recorded eight goals and 17 assists for 25 points to tie atop the team leaderboard in assists and rank third in both goals and points. The junior defenseman also ranked second in blocked shots, tied for second in shots and was fourth in power-play goals.

Horn recorded a point in 19 of 34 games with six multiple-point efforts; she tied her career high of two assists four times. She skated as a forward the opening 13 games of the season and began the year with a goal in five consecutive games. Horn's season highlights included her 50th career point, which was recorded Nov. 29 against Union College with the second of her two points. 

In 99 career games, Horn has 21 goals and 40 assists for 61 points. She is UNH's active leader in assists and ranks second in both goals and points.

Lavoie led the Wildcats in goals (18), power-play goals (six), shots, shooting percentage and points (33). The junior forward ranked second in game-winning goals as well as third in assists (15). The assist and point totals marked personal single-season highs, while the 18 goals matched her 2010 season best. 

In Hockey East, Lavoie tied for second in power-play goals, tied for third in goals and tied for sixth in both points and power-play points. She averaged one point per game (21pts/21games) in Hockey East league play.

Lavoie ended the season with a six-game point-scoring streak in which she tallied nine points (seven goals, two assists). In that six-game span, she factored in nine of the team's 11 goals; that extended to 13 of 17 goals the last nine games and 20 of 29 in the 2012 calendar year (14 games). Lavoie recorded 11 points (4g, 7a) in seven January games and was twice named the Athletic Republic Player of the Week that month. 

Lavoie tallied a point in 22 of 35 games with nine multiple-point efforts, which included her first career hat trick Jan. 28 against Vermont and three other two-goal games, as well as a career-high three assists Jan. 14 versus UConn. Her season highlights included her 50th career point Sept. 30 at Niagara University and her 75th career point Feb. 5 at UConn.

In 100 career games, Lavoie has compiled 45 goals and 37 assists for 82 points. She is UNH's active leader in both goals and points, and ranks second in assists. 

UNH (10-22-3) advanced to the Hockey East Championship tournament for the ninth time in 10 years by finishing sixth in the 2012 standings.
