U.S. WOMEN'S NATIONAL TEAM FACES OFF AGAINST HOCKEY EAST ALL-STARS AT THE WHITTEMORE CENTER

WAKEFIELD, Mass.  – The Women’s Hockey East Association, in conjunction with USA Hockey and the University of New Hampshire, announced Friday that it will hold a Nov. 22 exhibition game featuring WHEA All-Stars vs. the U.S. Women’s National Team at UNH’s Whittemore Center as part of Team USA’s Qwest Tour in preparation for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

Faceoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. Tickets for the event are $9 for adults and $5 for children and senior citizens. The on-sale date will be announced at a later time.

The top players from each of the eight Hockey East teams will be selected to represent the league in an All-Star style competition against the 2010 U.S. National Team, which is loaded with America’s best at every position. Among the hopefuls for Team USA’s roster will be UNH alum Kacey Bellamy as well as Hockey East alums Chanda Gunn (Northeastern University) and Karen Thatcher (Providence College) and Kelli Stack of Boston College.

BC head coach Katie King will serve as the WHEA All-Stars head coach. Linda Lundigran (Northeastern assistant coach), Meredith Roth (Providence assistant) and Jaime Totten (University of Connecticut assistant) have been named as King’s assistants for the game.

New Hampshire’s Whittemore Center was also the site of a WHEA All-Stars vs. U.S. Women’s National Team exhibition game in Dec. 2005, when the U.S. team was preparing for the 2006 Olympic Winter Games. Bellamy, then a freshman for the Wildcats, skated on the WHEA All-Stars team that led 2-0 at the first intermission. Team USA rallied to tie the score in the second period and netted three goals in the final frame for the 5-2 final in front of 2,786 fans.
