WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore forward Jenn Wakefield (Pickering, Ontario) of the University of New Hampshire women’s hockey team was named TPS Hockey East Player of the Month for December. The announcement was made on Jan. 2 by the league office. Wakefield becomes the first Wildcat to win this award since Sam Faber (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) did so in March 2008.
Wakefield led the Wildcats with five points (4-1-5) in three games, which means she factored in five of the team’s seven goals scored in December. She matched her career high of two goals – including the game-winning goal – to lead UNH to a 3-0 win against Northeastern. Wakefield also recorded a multiple-point effort at (then No. 6) Boston University with a goal and assist, and scored UNH’s only goal in a 1-1 tie against (then-No. 10) Harvard University.
The seventh-ranked Wildcats (9-4-5) return to action for the first time in 2009 on Jan. 10 (1 p.m.) at Providence. UNH’s next home game is Jan. 16 (7 p.m.) against Dartmouth.
