WAKEFIELD, Mass.  – Jenn Wakefield (Pickering, Ontario), a freshman forward on the No. 1-ranked University of New Hampshire women’s ice hockey team, was named Mission Rookie of the Week by Hockey East on Monday to mark the third time this season she has received that award. Wakefield was also honored consecutive weeks in October (22nd & 29th).

Wakefield tallied five points (two goals, three assists) and a +4 plus/minus rating to lead UNH to a weekend sweep (6-2 and 11-1 wins) of Niagara University. She opened the series with an assist (on the game-winning goal) and then tallied two goals and two assists to set personal bests in both assists and points (four). In the four-point effort, Wakefield tallied second-period assists 1:31 apart to expand UNH’s lead from two goals to 4-0; she ended the second-period scoring and opened the third-period scoring (8:03 apart) to extend the Wildcats’ advantage to 8-0.

Wakefield, who missed four games due to a commitment with the Canadian National Team, ranks second on the team in goals (nine) and sixth in points (15). She is also second in shooting percentage (.225) and fifth in plus/minus (+11). Wakefield has tallied a point in seven of 11 games with four multiple-point efforts, all of which have been on multiple goals. Her other honors include Mission Rookie of the Month for October.

UNH has received a total of five Mission Rookie of the Week awards this season. Kayley Herman (Weyburn, Saskatchewan) received that distinction Oct. 8 and Nov. 19.

New Hampshire (13-2-0 overall, 7-0-0 Hockey East) concludes its eight-game homestand Dec. 1 (2 p.m.) against Boston University. Tickets for the game are available online at www.unhwildcats.com and videostreaming will be available online at UNHwildcats.tv.
