WOMEN'S HOCKEY DUO SELECTED TO U.S. NATIONAL PRELIMNARY ROSTER
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.Kacey Bellamy (Westfield, Mass.) and Sam Faber (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.) of the second-ranked University of New Hampshire women’s ice hockey team have been named to the U.S. Women’s National Team preliminary roster, USA Hockey announced Thursday.

Bellamy and Faber are among the 27 players – 16 forwards, eight defensemen, three goaltenders – who are candidates for the 2008 U.S. Women’s National Team. Team USA will hold a tryout/training camp from March 24-31 in Colorado Springs, Colo., with the final 20-player roster announced March 28. Those 20 skaters selected to the 2008 Women’s National Team will represent the U.S. at the 2008 International Ice Hockey Federation World Women’s Championship in Harbin, China, from April 4-12.

Bellamy, a junior defenseman, has represented the U.S. at each of the last two Four Nations Cup tournaments. Both she and Faber, a junior forward, were members of the 2007 U.S. Under-22 National Team and both competed at the U.S. National Women’s Festival in 2006 and 2007.

Faber is currently the national leader in game-winning goals (11) and is No. 7 in goals (0.70 per game), No. 10 in points (1.40 ppg) and 21st in assists (0.70 apg). She leads the team – and Hockey East – in both goals (21) and points (42). Bellamy has 17 points (1g, 16a) in 27 games to rank 16th nationally in defenseman scoring (0.63 ppg).
